IMechE members approve resolution on HQ building

Members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers have voted in favour of a resolution regarding the future of our headquarters building in central London.

We are pleased to announce that 7,853 members took part in the vote, which closed on 10 February 2025, with the following results:

  • 6,281 voted FOR
  • 1,304 voted AGAINST
  • 268 ABSTAINED

With 82.8% voting in favour, we have achieved the 67% majority, needed to move onto the next phase.

President Clive Hickman OBE said:

“I would like to thank all members for their participation in the Special Meeting and to our Corporate and Associate Members for taking the time to vote on the future of our headquarters building.

Your participation has been and will continue to be crucial in determining the best path forward, so we can reach a solution to ensure that our headquarters remains fit for the future.”

There will be no sale of the freehold, leasehold or taking on a mortgage against the building without a second member vote.

We will provide updates and details of next steps in MyAccount.
